With Christmas being a busy time for pubs, we set our Red Oak Taverns management team to other tasks to support our business partners.

The New Harp Inn in the picturesque village of Hoarwithy, situated in the Wye Valley, an area of outstanding natural beauty in Hereford has frequently suffered from flooding due to a clogged up brook running through the pub gardens.  Our intrepid operations team Jeff Dunn, (business development manager), Charles Stewart (project manager) and Nathan Audas (operations director) were challenged to become drainage and garden clearance experts for a couple of days.  Wrapped in several layers and wellies they set out clearing the vegetation from the brook and around the pub to ensure that it ran smoothly to reduce the risk of flooding.

Speaking about their new roles, Jeff Dunn, business development manager for Red Oak Taverns said, “The last thing our business partners need during a busy period is us arranging business meetings so we set about doing something different and giving something back.  By clearing the brook and banks, we took the pressure off for our business partner Adrian Shaw and his wife Belinda so they could concentrate on running their pub”.

Adrian added, “This has been a job I’ve wanted to do for a long time but haven’t sufficient manpower or the time.  The vegetation grew so much in the summer, and we were really busy after we re-opened, we simply didn’t get the chance to do it.  I don’t think the guys will make it their day jobs; they were very cold, but they have been a great help, we feel it was very proactive of them, and it was brilliant to receive their help and support”.
